It seems that the complicated procedures of the Greek state system lead to more lost working hours than that of any other in the EU. International consultancy Pricewaterhouse Coopers (PwC) and the Interior Ministry found that people in Greece spend an average of 207 hours per year waiting around in public service offices and for this privilege Greece spends a whopping 16.7 billion Euros on red tape, second highest only to Hungary, while the lowest rates are in Britain and Sweden.
PwC also uncovered that would-be enterprisers face more legislative obstacles than fellow Europeans. Aspiring Greek entrepreneurs must comply with 30 laws and 15 procedures if they wish to set up a business! Additional findings suggested that over 50% of these entrepreneurs had to make more than ten visits to government offices simply collect their operating licence.
